Speakeasy Blocklists
In the spirit of good fedi citizenship, we are sharing our blocklists for the benefit of other instances.
Primary Blocklist

Our first blocklist is our Primary Blocklist. Any instance on the Primary Blocklist has been independently verified to violate the Speakeasy's rules. Our rules are pretty basic... don't be a bigot, don't harass people, all of those things... so if your instance is similar you should be safe importing these.
We've agreed to list our Blocklist on Pelago. We are currently learning how Oli's Pelago system works, so we're not active there just yet. They do make recommendations that run counter to what we've decided, so please review and decide which one works best for your instance.
About the Primary Blocklist:
- This list contains (most) of the domains we block. We strongly recommend that you review it and remove any domains you don't want to de-fed. This list started as an import of Seirdy's Fedinuke list and the Gardenfence blocklist, and changed as we reviewed the initial entires and added more instances to the list. Initially, we left inactive instances off, but decided to include them this time around to give instance mods a more comprehensive list.
- We do not crowdsource new entries, we independently verify that they violate our rules. If you trust us (and that's up to you) then you can trust this list.
- There are no online receipts. You can go check yourself, I guess, but for now... we're not equipped, timewise, to provide receipts. Diotima does most of our instance invesitgation; if you ask her she might remember what, exactly, triggered the defed.

Speakeasy Primary Blocklist (Updated 06-2026)
United States Federal Blocklist
Our second blocklist is our United States Federal Blocklist. This list is comprised of all of the federal government websites. We source this from the government's public list of federal sites. We exempted state and local governments; we may publish an additional list for those who wish to defederate with those too.
We added this list after an instance vote on 17 Jan 2026 in response to the United States government's descent into rogue state status and totalitarianism, its wanton rights violations, and its use of official government websites to spread propaganda and lies. We, as Speakeasers, recognize that we are defederating from websites that are not currently hosting federated services. However, we wanted to both pre-empt any future federation and make our position clear:
Fuck fascists, fuck authoritarians, and fuck bigots everywhere.

Questions & Answers
How do you validate complaints?
The process is a little bit different for each investigation, but generally it kind of goes like this:
- Check the domain name. Is it bigoted or racist?
- Check the TOS. Does it set policies that violate our rules? Is it unmoderated by design?
- Check the admin / mod accounts. Do they post things that violate our rules or interact regularly with people who do?
- Check the local feed. Is it dominated by rules violators?
- Are there other things that might be issues? If so, bring up to speakeasers.
Do you accept external reports?
Yes, we accept all report made in good faith. Please read our Contact Page for more details.
Do you believe in guilt by association?
Not exactly. Merely choosing not to federate with a gross instance is not enough, by itself, to defederate. But regularly interacting with terrible people and terrible accounts in a friendly way is enough for us to assume that you share some of their terrible beliefs. So yeah, that's prob a defed for your instance if you're a mod or admin.
Why not use [Other Blocklist Here]?
It depends. Some of them defed for reasons we disagree with, others include defederations for personal reasons. We prefer to keep our lists aligned with our own community and our own ideals.
